Most supplement companies have the bad habit of presenting their products as magic pills that can easily help you achieve amazing benefits for your body.

And one of the hormones that are often speculated to do just that is the human growth hormone (HGH). That’s why many supplements on the market claim to quickly and naturally increase HGH levels and make you feel as if you are in your 20s again.

Currently, one of the most popular examples on the market is the “Nugenix GH-Boost” which is a blend of amino acids and herbal extracts that supposedly help boost natural HGH synthesis.

It is important to clarify that there is not a single HGH supplement that has the potential to help adults suffering from low HGH due to a medical condition. And Nugenix GH-Boost is no exception.

That’s because patients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) have pituitary damage and the gland cannot produce enough of the hormone even under stimuli.

But could Nugenix help healthy adults to optimize their HGH levels? In this unbiased review, you will discover all about the ingredients in the Nugenix GH-Boost and whether the product is safe and effective according to the available scientific studies.

What is Nugenix GH-boost?

Nugenix GH-Boost is a tea-berry blast flavored dietary supplement that puts it in the same category as most multivitamins and herbal products. Yet, it is presented as an evidence-based product that is proven to increase GH levels.

How Manufacturer Describes Nugenix GH-Boost

What is more, the manufacturer claims that the increase is so significant that it can provide benefits like a better physique, sleep, and energy levels.

According to Adaptive Health LLC (the manufacturer), Nugenix GH-Boost works by stimulating the pituitary gland to produce more HGH, thus increasing the growth hormone levels in your body.

However, there are no scientific studies on the effectiveness of Nugenix GH-Boost in achieving any of these benefits or results. Instead, the manufacturer claims that there are studies on each individual ingredient, which indirectly suggest that the supplement is effective.

Taking a deeper look at each individual study (which you can read more about below) reveals that the majority were conducted in the 80s and the 90s, they include very few participants and often show conflicting results.

Furthermore, Nugenix is a dietary supplement which means it is not a subject of quality or safety testing by regulatory organizations such as the FDA. Thus, Nugenix is not and cannot be an FDA-approved product.

Considering the fact that there are no direct scientific studies for the effects of Nugenix on HGH and absolutely no evidence for the claimed health benefits, spending so much on poorly researched products is not worth it.

In fact, even if it did increase GH levels similar to the way injecting recombinant HGH does, it would still not lead to the dramatic benefits the manufacturer claims.

Studies investigating the effects of growth hormone on healthy individuals report mostly minor effects

What is more, there is no regulation over the safety of dietary supplements like Nugenix so there is no guarantee that you won’t get any unexpected side effects due to product contamination. The manufacturer does not provide any evidence for third-party testing either.

Some of the potential side effects of Nugenix GH-Boost may include headache, nausea, and dizziness due to individual intolerance to the ingredients of the product.

Are any claimed effects of Nugenix GH-Boost real?

Adaptive Health LLC makes several claims regarding the Nugenix GH-Boost supplement’s effectiveness, safety, quality, and scientific validation.

Review of Nugenix GH-Boost Claims of Efficacy and Scientific Validation

One of the first claims you may stumble upon is that “Nugenix® GH Boost features clinically validated ingredients to safely boost your GH levels by over 100% in just 90 minutes.” This may deceive most customers that the ingredients in the supplement are all proven to boost HGH levels and lead to a somewhat lasting effect.

The reality is that the studies regarding the effectiveness of the ingredients are mostly conflicting – some even show a blunted HGH response after supplementation with one of the ingredients (arginine).

What is more, those that do show an increase in HGH levels also reveal that the HGH reaches a peak 60-90 minutes after the supplementation and then quickly declines.

The manufacturer also states that “Nugenix GH Boost is safe, legal, and made under strict FDA manufacturing guidelines.” This claim may sound as if the FDA has some control over the manufacturing process of the product.

Yet, that is not the case since the product is a dietary supplement and all they may have inspected is the facility of the company.

Furthermore, Nugenix GH-Boost is claimed to be free of “steroids, banned substances, stimulants, proprietary blends or habit-forming ingredients.” However, the only way you can be certain that the product is safe and free of banned substances is if it was third-party tested, but there is no evidence of that.

Adaptive Health LLC also states, “Arguably one of our most effective supplements to date, Nugenix GH-Boost triggers your body’s pituitary gland into releasing more GH into the bloodstream. No other men’s formula optimizes your body’s GH production quite like this one.”

However, the manufacturer does not provide any evidence regarding the effectiveness of the dosage and the specific mixture of ingredients that they offer. They also fail to mention that the studies regarding the individual safety of each ingredient were conducted on patients during fasting.

According to research, being in a fasted state is also a sufficient prerequisite to trigger a peak in HGH synthesis in healthy individuals.

There are also many other dietary supplements that have similar ingredients and promote similar claims, such as SeroVital and GF-9. Neither of them has been proven to increase growth hormone levels.

Currently, there is not a single dietary supplement that has been consistently proven to increase natural HGH synthesis. Some amino acids such as L-arginine may induce only a short-term peak in GH when taken in a fasted state.

What are the ingredients of Nugenix GH-Boost?

In order to better evaluate the claims that Nugenix GH-Boost contains “clinical-grade ingredients” we should take a look at each individual component, its dose, and the scientific evidence behind it.

Can Nugenix Ingredients Optimize HGH Levels?

The main ingredient found in Nugenix GH-Boost is 3000 mg of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). There are only a few small studies investigating the effects of oral GABA supplementation on HGH levels.

One of the most recent studies which also used 3000 mg of GABA supplement per day, did show a spike in growth hormone levels which occurred as soon as 30 minutes after ingesting the supplement. Yet, the effect lasted only 60 minutes before HGH levels returned back to baseline.

Furthermore, another study reveals that the administration of GABA daily for 4 days caused a significant blunting of the overall GH response, so the overall effectiveness of the supplement was lost after prolonged use.

The second major ingredient in Nutrigenix GH-Boost is 2000 mg of L-Glutamine. There is only one small study with 9 participants which dates back to 1995 and suggests that glucosamine can lead to a short-term increase in natural GH levels. These results have never been replicated again.

Nugenix also contains the amino acids L-Lysine (1500 mg), L-Arginine (1500 mg), and L-Ornithine (400 mg) which are some of the most common ingredients in most commercial HGH booster supplements.

Yet, studies show that a combination of L-lysine and L-arginine (3000 mg each) is not effective in increasing GH levels, neither in the short nor in the long term. Another study also confirmed these results regarding both L-lysine + L-arginine and L-ornithine-containing supplements.

On the other hand, studies have shown that 4000-8000 mg of glycine supplementation may lead to a small transient increase in HGH levels. However, Nugenix contains only 100 mg of glycine which would be rather insufficient to produce any effects.

Another trial investigating the effects of a mixture of glycine and glutamine – both found in Nugenix – also shows a transient increase in GH levels. Yet, there was no increase in IGF-1 levels which reflects the mean daily HGH levels. This would mean that the transient increase of HGH has a rather insignificant effect on daily HGH changes and the body overall.

Currently, there is only one small study with mucuna pruriens (velvet bean) which also includes other extracts and reports a significant increase in HGH levels. Yet, the study involved taking a total of 2250 mg from the blend daily. On the other hand, Nugenix contains only 50 mg of velvet bean extract.

Nugenix GH-Boost also contains 25 mg alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (Alpha-GPC). Yet, studies report a transient increase in growth hormone levels only in doses ranging from 600 mg to 1000 mg α-GPC.

As evident from the research, none of the ingredients found in Nugenix GH-Boost has been proven to reliably increase HGH levels. Some of the components in the product may induce only a short-term spike in GH, while others are simply ineffective or present in insufficient quantities.

Nugenix GH-Boost customer reviews

Most of the real reviews regarding the effectiveness and safety of Nugenix GH Booster can be found on their Amazon listing, Reddit and BBB.org. Here are some of the most critical ones:

Taylor E.: “Flavor was fine, but didn’t feel any boost in energy, and I had an extremely hard time breathing along with a tingling sensation right after I took it.”

Kevin B.: ”Took it as directed. Never noticed any changes at all. Not more energy, no better sleep etc. Wasted money”

Mike H.: “Unless you are working out constantly then it really won’t do anything on its own. None of the claims have been proven by Food and Drugs. Would not recommend it. Spend your money elsewhere.”

Michael S.: “Doesn’t work. Don’t sleep any better, don’t feel any different. Waste of money. Snake oil.”

Overall, the majority of critical comments by customers are that the product was simply ineffective and did nothing for them – something to be expected considering it is a dietary supplement that lacks scientific support.

Nugenix Lawsuits

Adaptive Health LLC, previously known as Direct Digital LLC has also been the subject of several lawsuits regarding the safety and the claims they make about their products.

For instance, the manufacturer which was then known as Direct Digital LLC lost a lawsuit in 2017 against consumers who accused the company of false marketing.

The company claimed that their product called Instaflex Joint Support Supplement is scientifically proven and clinically tested to be beneficial for joint support. Yet, the plaintiffs proved that this is not the case and won the trial. All previous customers were also eligible for a partial refund as part of the settlement.

Once again in 2019, Adaptive Health LLC was taken to court because of another of their products, which supposedly increased testosterone. The product is called Nugenix Total-T – Free and Total Testosterone Booster and according to the plaintiff taking the supplement caused him to suffer serious liver injury and liver damage.

The plaintiff later filed for a dismissal, but it is unclear what the exact agreement reached by the parties was. Nevertheless, the lawsuits suggest that Adaptive Health LLC may make claims regarding the effectiveness and safety of its products that are not supported by evidence.

To sum up

Overall, it appears that the Nugenix GH-Boost and its ingredients lack the scientific support claimed by the manufacturer. Thus, it is likely ineffective in helping healthy adults to optimize their HGH levels.

In order to avoid falling for ineffective and potentially dangerous dietary supplements, it is best to be skeptical of all marketing and product claims, look for reputable sources of information, and always consult with your doctor or another healthcare provider.
